The first day of the HHSAA Division II state tournament came and went with a resounding thud for BIIF squads on Wednesday.

The Big Island teams went 0-3 on the day. Konawaena, the BIIF champion and No. 2 seed in the DII tourney, had a bye to the quarterfinals and will look to change that trend today at 5 p.m.

Hawaii Preparatory Academy (14-6) lost to Kapaa of the KIF 9-25, 25-19, 20-25, 19-25. Gemma Palleschi recorded 13 kills and 10 digs for Ka Makani. Kia’i Lindsey had 20 assists and Madi Lee added a team-high 12 digs.

Ka Makani made its 11th straight appearance in the state tourney, the longest active streak. Kapaa advances to take on the Wildcats.

Earlier in the night, Honokaa fell to Le Jardin in straight sets 13-25, 7-25, 9-25.

Leilani Pupuhi and Randy Iona led the way for the Dragons, each notching five kills. Karly Requelman had seven assists, while Tiera McKenzie led the team with seven digs.

Honokaa (12-9) moves to the consolation bracket, where they will face Roosevelt at 3:30 p.m. today.

Kohala — the BIIF’s third place team — put up a solid fight against Molokai, but ultimately fell in five sets, 25-23, 17-25, 24-25, 25-19, 5-15.

Shania Fuertes tallied nine kills for the Cowgirls (13-8) against the Farmers, including two aces. She also added nine digs to her stat line. Anaiyah Tabiolo had a game-high 20 digs and Cheylin Imai added six kills, two aces and 14 assists.

Kohala will play Hawaii Prep in the consolation bracket today at 3:30 p.m.
